(500) days of Summer got it wrong – for as bloggers everyday that we live counts, every post we write counts, for as bloggers our days are not unremarkable, as bloggers we make stories out of the unremarkableness day after day after day. Today marks a milestone for me, for this blog.

(500) days of Smidge.

(500) unremarkable days of my past made remarkable because I wrote about them on here.

I’ve been trawling these 500 posts looking for the days when my life was most vivid – and you know what? It is hard to distinguish when it wasn’t; whether my life was good, or bad, whether I was ill, having fantastic holidays, whether I was breaking up with B, moving house, falling out with friends, or having every test under the sun done my life has been good.

But of course within those 500 days there have been favourite moments:

There was the day shoes became a metaphor for the state of my relationship (I still love the shoes, he still hates them).

There was the day I got divorced and considered my marriage.

There was the day I made my mind up about what love really is (and you all argued with me).

There was the day I considered my own mortality (and that of other people).

There was the day I realised I would never be whole in other people’s eyes without a husband.

There was the day me and B made a pact.

There was the day B moved in (the first time and boy did I learn from it).

There was the day I made everyone wonder why anyone would ever marry me.

There was the day I first quoted 500 days and remembered them all (including meeting B).

…and there was the day that I realised that that striving for better means losing what’s good enough.

(500) days that I can now vividly remember as I put it down in words.

(500) memories.
